What is a GTE Statement?

A Genuine Temporary Entrant Statement (GTE) sets out to fulfil the function of an integrity test for all international students seeking to study in Australia. The students are expected to use the GTE statement as an avenue to convince the Australian embassy that they are coming to Australia primarily for the sake of studying and not looking for a channel to pursue permanent residency in Australia.

Which country requires a GTE Statement?

The GTE Statement is peculiar to the Australian Embassy. It’s more of a unique way of calling the Study Visa Application Letter written to embassies of other famous study destinations. So, it’s quite common that when the GTE Statement is mentioned, no one looks beyond Australia.

How to write a GTE Statement

Having talked about what a GTE Statement is and what country requires a GTE Statement, there is a need to look at guidelines for how to write a GTE Statement. We’ll also be providing a recent sample of a GTE Statement. However, you should know that the statement has been used and would amount to plagiarism if copied. Only use it as a guide to avoid losing your admission due to copied content.

What to include in your GTE Statement

The following is a list of vital points that should reflect in your GTE statement:

  • Be honest and try to paint a clear picture of your circumstances.
  • Describe the situation back home and present clear-cut evidence of your desire to return home.
  • Discuss your educational background and how it has prepared you for a study in Australia.
  • Talk about your career experiences and why they make you fit for the study.
  • Demonstrate convincingly why Australia is the perfect place for your study and not your home country or other much-fancied study destinations.
  • Talk about your dream and what you plan to achieve by studying in Australia.
  • Avoid using generic statements.

What to avoid in your GTE Statement

  • Avoid telling lies. If you once had a Visa rejected, be free to state it. It doesn’t in any way harm your chances. Instead, it is a way of leaving a good impression on the Australian embassy about your level of honesty.
  • Don’t make unverifiable claims. For example, claiming an earthquake in Nigeria or South Africa inspired your desire to study Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering is ridiculous considering Earthquakes are alien to African regions.
  • Don’t dwell too much on your childhood fantasies.

A Sample of a Visa-wining GTE Statement

I am Paul Vishar, a 37-year-old health worker from Gudu, Kenya. I reside at Mark street, off Airport Road, Kenya Seaport City. I am a father to two sons and I am married to Queen Paul. I am from a family of nine members, and I occupy the sixth position among the eight children. While my mother currently runs a private business, my father is late and used to work as an auditor for a private company when he was alive. Owing to the visible lack of enough personnel in my country in the fields of ageing support and individual support, many chronic health patients have continued to suffer a relapse of their poor health conditions and, in the most severe case, face an untimely death. The sudden rise in the demand for personnel in these fields has, therefore, piqued my interest in seeking Certificate 3 in Individual Support and Certificate IV in Aging Support in Australia.
Thankfully, my previous certification program has prepared me to undertake these programs. Holding a Highfield Level 3 Diploma in Adult care (RQF) has exposed me to the importance of helping the aged live a healthy lifestyle. However, I consider this insufficient for my future aspirations, and this has led me to seek further certifications in Individual Support and Aging Support.
I equally boast of relevant career experiences that will enable me to cope with studying these courses. I have in the past worked as a Health Care Assistant Internship at Kreisaltenheim Burgau Bremetalstr in Munich, Germany. I have also served as a Volunteer/Social Worker providing Counseling and Nursing Care at Edi International Hospital in Kenya where my role includes providing community members with general health education and tips for healthy living. I am convinced that these two courses will aid my aspiration to become a public health specialist in my country providing individual and aging support to the many patients who need non-clinical and clinical needs.
While my past foreign travel and work experience in Germany as a care assistant nurse has served as the right motivation to return to my home country to apply the knowledge gained to improve my community and establish a private healthcare firm, these certificate programs at the Australian Institute of Advanced Studies won’t be any different. Aside from using them as a means to provide for the needy in my country, I also consider them as an avenue to train many young health support enthusiasts in my country. In any case, I believe these dreams are best achieved in Australia and the Australian Institute of Advanced Studies.”
