2026 Honjo International Scholarship Duration and Reward

The period of the scholarship for the recipient is set in accordance with the shortest period of
time required to complete the intended degree.

  • ¥230,000 per month for 1 ~ 2 years degree
  • ¥210,000 per month for 3 years degree
  • ¥180,000 per month for 4 ~ 5 years of degree
    * The payment period cannot be changed once it commenced.
    * Those whose enrollment period is shorter than one year are not eligible to apply.
  • The travel grant to cover the expenses to attend an international conference will be provided to scholarship recipients, based on the scholarship provision rules.

The Master’s program is a 1 year of Korean language program and 2 years of degree program while the Doctoral degree program is a 1 year of Korean language program and 3 years of degree. program (Applications for the GKS graduate programs will open in February 2026).

Eligibility Requirements for 2026 Global Korea Government Scholarship:

To be considered for the Global Korea Government Scholarship;

  • All applicants must hold citizenship of NIIED designated countries that are invited to take part in the GKS program of Education
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the entire curriculum from the previous degree program must meet one of the conditions below;  (For example, previous degree for a doctoral degree program applicant is a master?s degree program)
    • Score percentile should be 80% or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked in the top 20% of one’s class 
    • CGPA must be equal to or above 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5 or 3.23/5.
  • Undergraduate applicants must be under 25 years while graduate applicants must be under 40 years of age (born after September 1, 1985)
  • All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of the program.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship is aimed at instilling in scholars, values crucial to become engaged Leaders, such as engagement with a plurality of perspectives, service to the community, audacity, and innovation.

Through its Scholarship, Fellowship, and Mentorship programs, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation focuses on the leadership development of our Scholars.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholars must:

  • Engage in Foundation in-person and digital events, including custom-designed Institutes of Engaged Leadership and Retreats during the first year of their term.
  • Collectively organize a conference event (Impact Conference) during the second year of the leadership program and present this conference during the third year 
  • Serve their communities as volunteers: Outside Foundation programming, active Scholars are expected to perform 30 hours of volunteer service or community initiatives each year and report on these activities to the Foundation. 
  • Take steps, through formal or informal training, if they are not fluently bilingual in both of Canada’s Official Languages (French and English), to improve their proficiency in the Official Language with which they are less familiar.
